June 2018 Newsletter

Dear Friends in Christ,

14 June 2018

I hope this news letter finds you well! It’s been a long time since I’ve written as I have had a few interesting challenges in my personal life – but it has all been a journey which continues to bring me closer to our Lord Jesus. However, no matter how large the obstacles seem at times, I am still fully committed to bringing you news about our project and my heart will always be very close to our amazing refugee friends.

Our DTS Students from Nov 2017 – April 2018

We had three refugees sponsored to do the Discipleship Training School (DTS) at Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in Blantyre, Malawi who graduated in April. Tresor and Falone spent some time after the DTS at the YWAM base at the Foundation for Farming where they learned invaluable skills in agriculture. Due to a lack of funds they were sadly unable to remain in Blantyre and returned to the Dzaleka refugee camp. Instead of allowing what may seem like a set-back (as they hoped to be able to stay at the YWAM base to continue their studies at the Foundation of Farming), they have taken what they have learned and started their own garden in their plot. They have already made compost to start cultivating fields with fresh produce with the vision that it may become a form of income for them and valuable to all the people in the refugee camp. They do however trust the Lord for some materials.

Falone reported that God is still working in their lives and using them greatly within the refugee camp. I am continually amazed at how unstoppable these people are! They always seem to find ways to make the best from the little that they have and they completely depend on God for supply.

Nathalie has also returned to the refugee camp but is also still trusting God to supply funding for her to be able to staff at YWAM in Blantyre this coming October. Please pray with us and also feel free to support her in this dream by making a donation using the details below. Nathalie is extremely ambitious and has proven to be a faithful servant of our Lord. Her heart is to someday be able to help orphans and children who are less fortunate to have an education.

DTS YWAM Potchefstroom

Brother Sango is one of the many students who completed his DTS in Potch this past April. He has decided to stay on in Potch to staff at the base. He has also taken it upon himself to assist in raising funds for the local orphanage and improving the facility. He has excellent administrative skills and has a brilliant background in education for children and fundraising. He spent may years in the refugee camp in Tanzania administering these skills. Please pray for our brother in this amazing endeavor.

Brother Steven

Our faithful team leader Steven has yet again impressed all of us with his diligence, perseverance and faith in the Lord! He is currently in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp building a house for a poor widow. He has also managed to raise enough funds to get a new wheelchair for the widow. Praise our mighty God for the work He is doing through Steven!

This is a post from Steven’s Facebook page:

She said is presence of the Lord in here, smiling and crying of joy when she sat in her new WHEELCHAIR. Thank you to everyone who is with us, praying and supporting us. Please keep us in your Prayers and Support us to finish the Vulnerable’s House. Your Support is more than Welcome.

Steven would like to apply for a long-term visa to be able to staff at YWAM Potch and for this he will need about $1200/R15,000. If you feel moved to contribute towards Steven’s journey then you can make a donation directly to his PayPal account: PayPal: jonni05@aol.com – Ref: “For Steven” or use the below banking info with reference: “Steven”.

 The Next Step

Blantyre is starting with their next DTS in November 2018 and the fees per person are still 600 USD (Approx R7,500) per person. This includes accommodation, meals and tuition. We have had many applicants and would like to encouraging you to please consider sponsoring a student for 2018. If you would like to get to know some of our applicants then let me know and I can send a profile of them to you. We have had contact and met some of them personally and know that they will be of huge impact in Africa as they too get equipped to work in the ministry.

Our YWAM team in Potch has also recently visited the refugee camp in Nampula, Mozambique and we feel that it is time to also start sending some of these refugees to a DTS to bring change to the Mozambique area. It is our vision to reach out to all refugee camps throughout Africa like a wildfire – sending as many refugees as possible through a DTS in order to bring them healing and sending them out into Africa to bring healing to this beautiful yet war-torn continent.

To fully sponsor a refugee to do the DTS we usually add about 200 USD to the costs as they need some extra money for personal expenses such as travel and toiletries.

Please contact me or use the banking details below to make a donation towards our next students using the reference: “DTS Nov”.

Our team has been invited to present Operation Refugee at the YWAM United Nations conference in Switzerland this coming November. We will need about R10,000 each which will include our flights, accommodation and food for the duration of our stay. This invitation is a God-given opportunity to bring awareness of the refugee crises and also gain more sponsorships towards our project. If you would like to make a donation towards our trip then kindly use the info below with reference: UN Trip. Your continued support in funding and prayers are always much appreciated.Last but not least – United Nations

Want to make a difference?

We have two methods of sponsorship:

“Adopt a Refugee” – this is where you may select a specific refugee and choose to sponsor him/her until the point where they become self-sufficient.

“Partner” – You may decide to give a monthly contribution towards the mission which supports our guys who are already in the field. (You are not obligated to a regular monthly contribution and may also choose to just do a once-off donation.)

Greetings in His service!
