July 2020 Newsletter

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

31 July 2020

I greet you today in the Almighty name of our Lord Jesus,

INTRODUCTION
Firstly, I would like to introduce myself to you. I am a 35-year old Capetonian and mother to a 13-year old girl, McKenzie. As of the 1st of July 2020, I took over from Michelle as the new Marketer and Fundraiser for Operation Refugee. Michelle has been a tremendous help in getting settled and allowed me to hit the ground running by being so well organized in her work. I honour her for the valuable work she has done within Operation Refugee, but I am sure she will still stay involved in some shape or form as she has a great love for God’s people.

COVID19 AND MISSION WORK
As the Coronavirus epidemic has been raging on, we have not been staying idle, and God is still using His people to move mightily across the African continent with His living hand clearly visible all around us. It has been devastating to witness the turmoil that this virus has left in its wake and continue to wreak havoc, however, we will continue to stay focused on our Lord and Saviour and believe that He will use even this dreadful situation, to the glory of His sons and daughters. Please continue with us on this journey of Operation Refugee Africa and the great commission He called us to.

DZALEKA REFUGEE CAMP, MALAWI – BUILDING PROJECT
Tresor and Felone, a married refugee couple from the DRC who live in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp, felt God gave them a vision for an establishment to be built opposite the refugee camp. This building would be used to train up missionaries and do DTS through YWAM. This structure, so close to the camp, would significantly lower costs to attend a DTS and therefore open doors for many more refugees to take part. At present, the cost is $1000 (USD) for a 5 months DTS in Blantyre, Malawi and we can only send up to five refugees at a time, provided we have the necessary funds available.
In faith, Tresor and his team started the work required to build the foundation and acted on God telling them to start with what was in their hands and He would supply the rest. With less than $485.00 (R8000), they stepped out and commenced with the project. On Wednesday they laid the first layer of bricks, a truly astounding sight! The spirit of these people is contagious, and I had to fight the tears watching a video of them at work. What an inspiring bunch of humans!
Unfortunately, there is a shortfall of $91,515.00 (R1,492,000.00) but we believe that God will supply our every need, no less will He come through on this faith-project. Hebrew 11:6 – “And without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
If would like to get involved with this spectacular project and place of worship in-the-making, please send your donation, our banking details are listed below.
We will keep you updated on their progress via our newsletter and social media channels.

LILONGWE, MALAWI – YWAM BASE
Our dear brother Jimmy Ntwali, a refugee from Burundi, who has been living in Malawi for the last 8 years and staffing at YWAM Blantyre, married his longtime love, Nadine on the 25th April 2020. Nadine is also from Burundi and they met 8 years ago but unfortunately, their roads parted but they continued their relationship despite the distance. God answered their prayers when Nadine came to Blantyre to do a DTS and she decided to stay on as staff when she completed her training.
In this new season, they feel lead to travel to Lilongwe and reach out to the people in the refugee camp nearby. Nadine had to get a new visa but unfortunately due to a lack of funds, they could only get a six-month visa and they are therefore not able to travel to Lilongwe now, as they will have to come back again to Blantyre when this visa expires. They are therefore trusting that God will provide $300.00 (R5068.00) so that Nadine can get a 2-year visa. They are extremely excited to start on this new journey with the Lord. Jimmy will be teaching soccer and ministering the men there and Nadine will teach the ladies about sustainable living and working in women’s ministry.

If the Lord is moving your heart to contribute towards Nadine’s visa fees, please donate via our Operation Refugee banking details and use the Reference “JimmyNadine”.

NAMPULA, MOZAMBIQUE – YWAM BASE
Brother Victor is working with the people from the refugee camp near Nampula and leading them to Christ. They are unfortunately encountering many people who flee atrocious Muslim attacks and they are trusting the Holy Spirit to reveal to them how they can assist and love these people, and so doing, advancing His Kingdom. Many of these people are either Catholic or Muslim so it is proving challenging to speak to them about the ways of the Lord as they are very much stuck in religious mindsets. Please pray with us that God will lead our brothers and sisters in Christ in wisdom.

CONGO (DRC) – YWAM BASE
Steven has been hard at work with YWAM to deliver food packages to the people who have been affected by the recent floods due to heavy rainfall. They have had to assist many who lost their homes and unfortunately, a great deal of Congolese has lost their lives. Over 70,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and take up shelter elsewhere. We are so grateful to hear how Steven and those who form part of YWAM, are making such a visible difference amidst the Corona pandemic. We are in awe and inspired.
